Work Principle

Non-pressure Vacuum Tube Solar Water Heater

Through a thermo-siphon effect (in which hot water rises), hot water circulates between the collectors and the water tank while there is sun and is stored at the end of the day in an insulated tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is solar water heating a viable alternative to gas or electricity?
Solar is a supplement. It cannot totally replace gas or electric as there are days with little sunlight. A correctly sized system provides 60%-70% of a household's hot water needs annually. The system can be automated to guarantee hot water regardless of weather.
2. How long will it take to recoup my investment?
Depending on your location and usage, the cost may be recouped as quickly as 4-5 years through reduced electricity or gas bills. You will make considerable savings during the long lifespan of the heater.
3. Can the solar collectors be used in cold conditions?
Yes. Collectors can be used in temperatures as low as -30°C, though performance is reduced in extreme conditions. Good heat output is still achieved in mild sub-zero conditions.
4. What happens if one of the tubes is broken?
Tubes are strong but easily replaceable if broken. The collector can still operate with broken tubes, though efficiency decreases, so we recommend immediate replacement through your local distributor.
5. Will water be heated on a cloudy day?
Yes. While output is reduced on overcast days, the collector still provides heating. On heavily clouded or rainy days, automation ensures gas or electric boosting maintains the required temperature.
6. How do I protect the system during subzero temperatures?
Freeze protection can be implemented via a controller with a low-temperature setting. When the temperature drops below 5°C, the pump circulates water to warm the collector. In extremely cold areas, a closed loop with a glycol/water mix is used.
